Intersting Passages
If you come across and interesting pasaage in the book, and you want to share it, post the page number and where on the page it is, so everyone else can see it too. Also, please post your thoughts on the passage below where to find it.
Re: Intersting Passages
Page number - 22, last paragraph.
I just thought this paragraph was kinda cool. I liked the way she compared herself as a layered onion. I like onions.

So what does everyone think of the book? i myself think it's really cornfusing and confuzzling. bradbury does NOT explain things and he rambles on and on about something strange like the raindrops.

I think he was traying to be all deep and sentimental, but really he just made it into complete nonsense.cem wrote:So what does everyone think of the book? i myself think it's really cornfusing and confuzzling. bradbury does NOT explain things and he rambles on and on about something strange like the raindrops.

Btw, this is Elizabeth using Nicole's account cuz mine STILL DOESN't WORK!!!!! ARGH!!!
So i already mentioned that there is a part (well actually several) in the book that confuses me. Here's the first one:
"One drop of rain. Clarisse. Another drop. Mildred. A third. The uncle. A fourth. The fire tonight. One, Clarisse. Two, Mildred. Three, uncle. Four fire. One, Mildred, two, Clarisse. One, two, three, four, five, Clarisse, Mildred, uncle, fire, sleeping tablets, men disposable tissue, coattails, blow, wad, flush, Clarisse, Mildred, uncle, fire, tablets, tissues, blow, wad, flush. One, two, three, one, two, three! Rain. The storm. The uncle laughing. Thunder falling downstairs. The whole world pouring down. The fire gushing up in a volcano. All rushing on down around in a spouting roar and rivering stream toward morning.

Yeah. That part was kinda stupid. I think Ray Bradbury was trying to be a sentimental and dramatic, but he failed at it. He just ended up making a really long, boring, pointless paragraph. You didn't get any emotion form it (besides confusion and boredom) and the only thing you did get from it was that it was raining. Big whup.

"Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were heading for shore.
I really liked this sentence. What do you guys think about it?

Hmmmm...How would you do your own saving if you drown? The sentence is very interesting, but it's not my favorite. It just feels kind of depressing because even though you're trying to save your life, you die. Even if you do die with hope, it still stinks because you're dead. Maybe im getting too technical or whatever, trying to get the logic, but all im saying is that this quote isn't my favorite.

Re: Intersting Passages
So i haven't really put in any passages yet. But one that i kind of like is on the first page. Kind of late to point it out. But i like how the book starts out as "It was a pleasure to burn. It was a pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed." The way he just points out in the first sentence how it's wonderful to burn things just says something. it says that eating away at something, killing something with fire is wonderful. It's glorious and wonderful. And he goes into more detail to say how watching something burn is wonderful. Not just that it's on fire, but that it turns into something else. Ashes. The object is not what it once was and it's changed just by the magical fire and the power that fire has.

Re: Intersting Passages
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS COMMENT IS ABOUT PAGE 110. IF YOU ARE NOT THERE, DO NOT READ THIS COMMENT UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN THE FUN OF THE BOOK!
- Spoiler:
- So before page 110, it talks about how there is another mission to burn another house that contains books. And Montag is questioning whether he can still burn books. and the quote comes that i love.
"At last Montag raised his eyes and turned.
Beatty was watching his face.
'Something the matter, Montag?'
'Why,' said Montag slowly, 'we've stopped in front of my house.'"
and then the third part starts. it's the perfect ending to a section of the book and you're just sitting there in excitement or fear or worry or curiosity, waiting to see what happens next. It's a definite page turner. Without turning the page, you don't know what happens! I like (well sometimes) books that stop you like that and have you curious. It stops at a turning point or at a serious point in the book. You HAVE to know what happens next! And when the book stops here, it adds excitement to the book because nothing exciting has happened yet!
